Natchez Children’s Services Annual Report for 2016

“It shall be the mission of Natchez Children’s Services to intervene in the lives of children and families in crisis by providing education, counseling, advocacy, prevention and support services in a loving, child friendly environment.”

2016 was highlighted by our celebration of 200 years of continuous service to abused, neglected, and at-risk children and families—completely free of charge-- on March 12th, making NCS one of the oldest non-profits in the country!

In December, the National Children’s Alliance conducted a site review of the Children’s Advocacy Center and awarded the CAC with the highest NCA designation as a fully accredited center!

The Children’s Advocacy Center completed its 5th year offering forensic interviews for child victims of felony crime or children who have witnessed a violent crime. Interviews are recorded so the child recounts the traumatic event only once, while a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) of experts determines how the case should proceed.

Highlights include:

5 counties of service (Adams, Franklin, Jefferson, Franklin, and Wilkinson)

71 forensic interviews and follow-up services provided by 2 victim advocates

10 cases prepared for court

7 perpetrators of crimes against children brought to justice

244 trauma-focused therapy sessions conducted with child victims

200 hours of educating and facilitating MDT teams in each county of service

2,000 hours of volunteer service from groups such as Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service (RVICS), Boston University, Mennonite Bible School, local school, and many other churches, groups and individuals

350 Christmas gift bags distributed to area children and youth.

Thank you for your prayers and participation during this historic year!
